Rules for The New Baseball Game

Version 7-24-2007

The New Rules

The New Baseball Game follows the same rules as the traditional game with these new improvements....

1.00

Each Team has 7 players. A pitcher, catcher, right infielder, left infielder, right outfielder, left outfielder, and the rover.

1.01

The rover can play anywhere on the field as long as they play deeper then the infielders and are not interfering with base runners or the person at bat.

2.00

The field...From home plate to left and right base should measure 90 feet...but from left to center base the distance is 70 feet (this is also true for the distance from center to right base).

2.01

A runner on base must keep one foot on the base until the ball is released by the pitcher. The runner may attempt to steal a base but must not leave the base until the ball is released by the pitcher.

2.02

Rule 2.01 eliminates pitchers holding runners on base. It also eliminates the balk.

3.00

The first batter of every at bat determines the direction their team will run the bases for that half inning. The direction is only decided once the first runner has made it on base. After the first player decides the direction (right or left only) all batters must follow that direction for the rest of the at bat.

4.00

Outs carry over to the next at bat. If a team has two outs and hits into a double play, the extra out carries over to their next at bat. So the team hitting into the double play will only have two outs for their next at bat.

4.01

Rule 4.00 holds true also for a triple play. In this case the team hitting into the triple play would only have one out for their next at bat. Two outs would carry over.

4.02

Depending on how many outs a team has for their at bat, the manager may rotate the order of the team’s lineup for that half inning. Example the team has a full three outs and players A, B, and C are on deck. They may bat in six different orders (A,B,C or B,C,A or C,A,B or B,A,C, or A,C,B or C,B,A).

4.03

With rule 4.02 it follows that if a team has only two outs for their at bat and batters A and B are on deck then the manager can only rotate the order A to B or B to A.

5.00

Two strikes is an out.

5.01

Three balls is a walk.

5.02

After the batter has one strike...Two foul balls by a batter will be an out.

6.00

Once the umpire calls play ball. The batter has 10 seconds to step into the batters box. Once the batter is in the box the pitcher must release the ball within 10 seconds.

6.01

Only the umpire can approve a stoppage of play.

6.02

In accordance with Rule 6.00 if the batter is called for delay of game one strike may be added to the batter’s count.

6.03

In accordance with Rule 6.00 if the pitcher is called for delay of game a ball may be added to the batter’s count

7.00

Relief Pitchers must warm up prior to relieving. When they reach the pitcher's mound in a game situation, the first pitch they throw will be to the batter. No warm up pitches will be given on an active field.
